Preschool & Early Intervention

Exceeding National Quality Standards

OUR PRESCHOOL

Punchbowl PS Preschool operates eight preschool classes. Four classes operating Monday - Wednesday and four classes operating Thursday and Friday. Two of these classes in each session being Early Intervention. Please refer to the Early Intervention section for more details.

Children are eligible for enrolment in preschool classes from the beginning of the school year if they turn four years of age on or before the 31st July in that year.

The students enrolled in the preschool have a busy learning year. Our program reflects the principles and practices of the Early Years Learning Framework, and focuses on interest and play-based learning through planned and spontaneous learning experiences. The framework provides the foundation for future learning and supports the development of early language, literacy and numeracy.

Our quality program responds to the abilities and interests of each child and provides a balance between child-initiated and adult-initiated experiences. These experiences provide opportunities for children to learn as they create, discover, improvise and imagine.

The preschoolers share many exciting extracurricular activities by visiting the school, such as Mother's and Father's Day stalls, Kindergarten Orientation, Library sessions, school incursions and assemblies and International Day celebrations. The Schools as Community Centre also holds afternoon teas and educational workshops for preschool parents.

We extend students' learning through a variety of incursions and excursions. These include a Kindifarm visit, workshops and lessons led by workers in the community as well as visits to engage with our local community. The local fire and police departments also visit the school throughout the year.

The preschool is an integral part of Punchbowl Public School. Students have many opportunities to visit the Kindergarten classrooms and to be involved in other areas within the school to support a successful transition for the following year. We are very proud of our preschoolers leading the Acknowledgement of Country at each Monday morning whole school assembly.
