PAX Good Behaviour Game

PAX means peace, productivity, health and happiness, and is what the PAX Good Behaviour Game helps create and strengthen in each classroom.

PAX GBG consists of proven behavioural strategies used daily by teachers with students. The 10 evidence-based and trauma informed strategies build self-regulation in children, strengthen peer networks, reduce impulsivity and teach prosocial decision-making in children. The ‘peaceful’ classroom environment supports learning, wellbeing, participation and confidence.

PAX GBG develops students who can be fully attentive and engaged in learning so teachers can use their time and resources to teach. Schools using PAX GBG report:

  • Increased time for teaching and learning
  • Increased attention to and completion of academic tasks
  • Engaged learners
  • Improved learning outcomes including reading scores
  • Reduction in off-task and disruptive behaviours.

PAX GBG has been implemented school wide resulting in measurable improvements in student engagement.  All teaching staff have been participated in the PAX GBG professional learning P-6. The program has been refined to suit our setting and elicit the most impactful response from students

The PAX walls on display in classrooms are further evidence of teachers' commitment to the program. The use of consistent school wide learning cues and language have been reported to ease the transitions between classroom and support teachers as well as the transition from year to year. The language and prompts of PAX GBG are a thread of the familiar that ease the anxiety of students as they move through settings across the school.
